(Last Updated On: April 27, 2019)Formal Invitations and Appeals are helped by the use of a ‘Live’ stamp. The USPS supplies only one design of Nonprofit stamp for this category in machinable roll of 3,000 or 10,000. A Live Stamp vs. a Permit Imprint (text printed on the envelope) adds color and draws attention to your mailpiece. It’s worth it, in our opinion.
The postage cost is the same in either case. Your only additional cost is that of affixing the stamps. The stamps have a value (and a cost) of five cents each. We purchase the appropriate roll or rolls paying the five cents each cost. When your mail is presented at the BMEU (Bulk Mail Entry Unit) the value of those stamps is deducted and the balance of the postage is due.
For most bulk mailings a Permit Imprint is suitable, but for Formal Invitations and Appeals, stamps are advised.
